Developmental Editing

What is your story about? Why are your characters the way they are? What are their motivations behind their actions? Tell me the value behind certain scenes. What are you trying to say?

These are the questions I ask during developmental editing. Think broad picture stuff. I help you work out the kinks in your story. Are you over-explaining in one area? Are certain scenes lacking? The general feedback I provide will help you build a better plot and develop stronger characters.

Developmental editing usually comes after you have a first draft. I’m here to help you take your ideas and polish them before moving on to heavier editing.

I’ll make comments on your Google Doc manuscript with suggestions, and meet with you over video call for a one-on-one consultation both before and after the editing process.

Copyediting

It’s all about the details, baby! This is where we get into the nitty-gritty. I personally love going line by line and cleaning up copy. My mom didn’t get me a mug that says “I am silently correcting your grammar” for nothing.

Here we’ll focus on grammar, spelling, tense/POV, and word usage. We want your story to be the most readable it can be. I don’t know about you, but when I notice a typo in a published work it’s ALL I can think about and takes away from the story. Let’s avoid that, shall we?

Copyediting usually comes after the second or third draft. We want to have the plot, characters, and general story polished before we move into the more detailed stuff.

I’ll make comments in your Google Doc manuscript notating these mistakes and how to fix them. If your story has a unique magic system or other specificities, please include a reference guide.

Rates: $25 per 1,000 words
